Review 519: Amrut Spectrum

It’s already some time ago that I tasted this Amrut with 3 friends. We tasted it on a warm spring night after one of the first BBQ nights of the year. Everyone brought a nice bottle from his collection and Eric put this one on the table (amongst others). This is quite a hyped and sought after bottle due to the unique maturation and profile of this whisky and there are only 1000 bottles available world wide.

Review 514: Amrut 2009 4 Year

This is the 15th whisky of the 2nd edition (2016) of the Whisky ProefOlympics (tasting Olympics) a blind tasting competition based in The Netherlands. Yet again a new expression for me. But thats the fun of blind tasting competitions like this: you get the change to taste something you haven’t had in your glass yet. BTW: I have tasted this blind. Review 378: Amrut Kadhambam

Time to taste another Indian Single Malt. This time an Amrut hit a curious maturation sequence (read the PR stuff below). I had my fair share of Amrut whisky and never really have been disappointed. On Wikipedia the following is stated about the name: Amrut (अमृत) or amrita is a Sanskrit word which can be translated as “nectar of the gods”, “nectar of life” or “drink of the gods”. The company translates it as “Elixir of Life”.

Review 356: Amrut Naarangi

The Naarangi is a very intriguing, inventive release from the Amrut distillers in India. Amrut filled casks with Oloroso sherry and added orange peels to them. This mixture was left to season the wood for over two years. Afterwards, three years old malt whisky was put in the casks and it was left to mature for an extra period of three years.

Review 329: Paul John Bold

Paul John Bold mirrors the heady spirit of Goa, with all its boisterous exuberance. The first wave splashes a dizzying array of Manuka honey, prickly spice and Bourboneque red liquorice. Review 307: Paul John Single Cask #570

Every now and then Paul John bottles a single cask expression. This non-peated cask was selected by the Dutch importer Bresser & Timmer and Jock Shaw and is exclusively bottled for the Dutch market.

The whisky is matured in barrel number #570, made of American oak. It is un-chill filtered and bottled with a natural color on a cask strength of 58.0%. This is an excellent John Paul with a fine balance between fruity and spicy flavours. In total there are only 180 bottles available.

Review 306: Paul John Single Cask #739

resser & Timmer, the Dutch importer (together with Jock Shaw), selected a delicious peated John Paul Single Malt and it is now available as single cask bottling. There are only 210 bottles available.

The Whisky matured in a American oak cask with number #739, and is bottled at cask strength of 57.0%. The whisky is un-chillfiltered and has its natural color. Fine notes of fruit and spices are surrounded by soft peat smoke in this delightful John Paul.

Review 305: Paul John Edited

The Edited is the peated version of John Paul. The peat is the only ingredient that’s not from India but from Scotland. Roughly 15% of the vatting is peated, to a level of about 20 to 25 ppm. Like the other whisky’s of John Paul Edited is fully matured in Bourbon casks and un-chillfiltered and bottled at it’s natural colour.

Review 304: Paul John Brilliance

Following the introduction in 2012 of the first Singe Cask of John Paul, this Brilliance together with the Edited are the first mainstream single malt bottlings. It is a non-peated Whisky that is matured in Bourbon Barrels. It is about four to five years old and is un-chillfiltered, natural colour and is bottled at a strength of 46%.
