Review 398: Balblair 1997 15 Year

On to the next Balblair and this one is aged for 15 years in ex Bourbon casks. They seem to use a lot of ex bourbon casks and rarely use european oak ex sherry casks. This may have to do with the fact that sherry casks are immensely expensive nowadays. But who knows i can’t find any info on that on their site.

Review 397: Balblair 1990 24 Year

So far this is the oldest Balblair I’ve tasted in my discovery series to get to know the distillery. It looks promisingly dark and luckily it’s a natural colour (so no added E150-a). This one is matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks and Spanish oak ex-sherry butts.

Review 396: Balblair 1989 21 Year

Since I tasted so little Balblair’s I took part in a bottle share and bought 8 Balblair samples to get more accented with this distillery.
Balblair Vintage 1989 2nd release was introduced in 2010. A full-bodied malt with aromas of raisin, green apple and hints of banana and lemon.

Recensie 226: Balblair 2003

Balblair maakte haar eerste whisky onder leiding van oprichter John Ross in 1790 en is daarmee de oudste nog werkende distilleerderij in de Schotse Highlands. Ze is gesitueerd in het pittoreske Dornoch Firth, met uitzicht op de minimaal 4000 jaar oude ‘Standing Stone’ Clach Biorach.
