Review 581: Mortlach 1994 20 Year

It seems to be Mortlach season the last few weeks here at World Whisky (not that I mind it, not at all). This time yet another independent bottled Mortlach but now by Malts of Scotland. The independents are so much more interesting than the highly overpriced distillery expressions. This expression was matured for 20 years in a sherry hogshead and bottled at cask strength of 53.6% with a yield of only 309 bottles.

Review 579: Mortlach 3 Year

This time I have an old dram in my glass. And not one where the liquid is matured long but one that is bottled in the late 1970’s or early 1980’s. There are rumors that the liquid is around 10 years old but since it’s not stated on this NAS bottle i’ll declare it as 3 years (as I do with all the NAS expressions I taste).

Review 568: Mortlach 1991 21 Year

Last week I found this bottle in a big whisky shop in the north of the Netherlands. I never heard of this independent bottler before. But Jean Boyer has bottled over 200 single malts. And than there is the fact that this is a 21 year old mortlach in 1st fill sherry casks. that makes me salivate malt mates. I love a good aged Mortlach from sherry casks.

Review 558: Mortlach 2006 8 Year

And then there is another Mortlach in my glass! I really like my Mortlach’s, especially if they are matured in 1st fill sherry casks, and from independent bottlers. The distillery’s own expressions are not that impressive and highly overpriced for the quality you get.
This one is from Provenance and matured for 8 years in a refill hogshead.

Review 550: Mortlach 2009 7 Year

On Saturday’s I often do a wee shop route with my friend. We are blessed here with two really good whisky shops that are actually very close to each other. Today we visited Slijterij Frans Muthert/Dramtime.eu in Musselkanaal. Tom-Roderick and Aeilke welcomed us and offered us a few dram to taste. This young Mortlach expresion from Provenance (Douglas Laing) was the first.

Review 531: Mortlach 25 Year

After tasting the new made spirit it’s time to start tasting the whole standard Mortlach line-up. The last one is this 25 year old expression. So far I have only tasted expressions bottled by independent bottlers and I have to say that I rather like those Mortlach expressions. So I’m quite curious how the original stuff tastes.

Review 527: Mortlach new make

I had the rare opportunity to taste this fresh distillate from Mortlach. Tasting a new made spirit is alway’s interesting to discover the distillery character end compare it wat the aged versions the distillery produces. Sometime new made is not all that pleasant and sometimes it’s lovely to sip as is.
